Improving access to affordable child care

State investments in child care assistance have dropped by more than 80 percent since 2007, when income limits were rolled back as part of state budget cuts.

The Institute has been working with our community partners to expand access to affordable child care so that parents can go to work knowing their child is safe, and children can get a jump start on their education.  This year there are several bills that would help more families gain access to affordable child care by:

  • Allow a parent to use child care assistance during a short term training program (read more)
  • Providing child care assistance to workers who want to improve their skills through education and training (read more)
  • Eliminating the “asset test” and child support requirements for child care assistance applicants (read more)
