Who we are

A joint project of The Economic Progress Institute and Rhode Island KIDS COUNT.

The state has many decisions to make as it implements the health coverage requirements in the federal Affordable Care Act. Our goal is to ensure that these options, including RIte Care, Medicaid and the Rhode Island Health Insurance Exchange, are high-quality, comprehensive, easy to access, and affordable for all children, adults and families in Rhode Island.

Project Focus

  • Affordable coverage through Medicaid, Basic Health Program and the RI Health Exchange 
  • Accessible and streamlined enrollment systems for Medicaid and Exchange coverage 
  •  Strong consumer support programs to help individuals and families know about and enroll in health coverage 
  •  Ensure outreach and enrollment systems meet the unique needs of people of color, people whose first language is not English, people who have limited literacy skills and people with disabilities

Project Activities

  • Educate consumers about the new health insurance coverage that will be available in 2014
  • Keep consumers up to date about the steps the state is taking to build a new system for enrolling in health insurance coverage – including Medicaid and the Exchange
  • Provide opportunities for consumers to give input to state decision makers
